Ah, parenting by deception. I do my best not to do outright lying and deceiving, but I'm not above the occasional bit of sneakiness. When it comes to learning, sometimes you really have to sneak things in. I think of it as the "try it, you might like it" approach - without even saying a word.
I like leaving out books that I think one or both kids will be interested in, open to a particularly appealing page. If necessary, I might let them "happen" to see me reading through the book, "mmm"ing and "aha"ing before I oh-so-casually leave it out for them to drift over to.
I never use this approach for truly serious topics, of course. But when I want to add a little flavor, I'm all about the easy! (And with this approach, no need to puree steamed veggies first, like Mrs. Seinfeld!)

I sometimes leave books out (or in boxes in different rooms) and find my boys looking through the ones they're interested in. The Usborne Books especially seem to draw them in, and I'll often find them reading happily for hours.
