Dear Hubby was recently offered a new job in a new town, which necessitates moving the entire family sometime in the next few months. Luckily, it's close enough by that he can commute for a while, but it would be entirely too draining to do it on a long-term basis. Add in the factor that we want (desperately!) to move from here, and I guess we're packing up and moving out soon.
We'll moving to the town associated with one of the two big state colleges. It will be somewhere in that general area, at any rate. Not surprisingly, the schools in the area are nationally ranked, high quality schools. What amuses me no end is the number of people so far - people who've known me for YEARS now - who gush about the schools up there to me. The schools are FABULOUS, dontcha know! They're NATIONALLY RANKED! I would just LOVE the schools up there!
What amuses me is the assumption that homeschooling my children is all about the school quality. These people know me, they know that we have homeschooled from the very beginning. You'd think that they'd get a teensy hint that maybe, just maybe, for us homeschooling is about more than the schools around here. Apparently not. Oh well, I don' t get in a snit about it, I just nod my head and agree that yes, I've heard wonderful things about the schools over there.
I do have to admit that being around better schools will be nice. A safety net is never a bad thing and if, please God no, something should happen that would require that my kids ever enter public school, I'll feel better being in this area than where we are now. But to just assume that I'm going to throw away the last 11 years for a ranking - that makes me laugh just a little.
