Thursday Thirteen

Thursday 13 - 13 random things about my family and our homeschool:

1. I decided to homeschool when I was only 17 and a senior in High School. My aunt started homeschooling her children, and I thought that was absolutely the coolest thing ever.

2. My husband and I have known each other since he was 3 years old and I was 6 months old.

3. The Kiddo started recognizing words at 34 months and was reading easy sentences by the time he was 3 1/2 years old. By then, I was really glad I already knew I wanted to homeschool!

4. My husband has had 2 concussions in his life; my daughter has had one.

5. When the Kiddo was 7, and Munchkin was 4, she could actually spell better than he could. Luckily, he wasn't self-conscious about it (he would even ask her how to spell things back then!) and over time they have become pretty balanced.

6. I have managed to get through my life so far without a single broken bone.

7. My son started reading first, then writing. My daughter did the opposite, but in approximately the same time frame.

8. My cat is older than my marriage. This is apparently the only thing that keeps DH from tossing her out on her ear when she urps up her food. ;-)

9. Daddy started teaching the Kiddo how to play chess when he was 6. He's managed to beat his father once and me several times.

10. I love reading, and my favorite genres are mystery, science fiction, and fantasy. My favorite kinds of books are series fiction, because I love getting to know characters over the course of time.

11. I am the contact mom/manager of our local homeschool book club. The Kiddo picked the name for the club back when it started - The Lightning Readers.

12. The Kiddo's least favorite school subject is math; on the other hand, math is his sister's favorite subject.

13. My birthday is next Wednesday!
