Thoughtful Thursday
There certainly has been a lot happen in the last week to be thoughtful about. Of course, one of the biggest things has been the school shootings that have broken out again recently, most notably the shooting in PA at the Amish school. A sweet group of people who abhor violence, to be broken in upon and devastated in the blink of an eye. As homeschoolers, school violence is one of the things that many of us worry about and is often a partial reason for our desire to homeschool. But the Amish shooting shows that sometimes you just can't get away from it anywhere. In that case, we just have to ask the Lord to look out after us, and hope for the best.
This was pointed up to me by accident yesterday. Last week, a police officer was shot in the line of duty (routine traffic stop, no rhyme or reason for the shooting) downtown just before noon. The shooter escaped and was not found for nearly a day. Some of the local schools - including the one my children would go to if they went to public - were put in lockdown until 3:00. This made me sad to think that my kids could have been in a locked down school because of the mere possibility that a bad guy might run in that direction.
However, I was on the phone with another homeschool mom yesterday, and she told me that she and her kids were down at the local Arts Learning Center at the time of the shooting - which is only about 4 blocks away from where the shooting took place. They came out from their classes to find the road and the area completely stirred up with police, reporters, etc. So homeschooling is no proof against violence, is it?
So, a lot to think about, and pray about. Whatever will happen, will happen. God keeps us in His provident care, and we just need to trust that when we've done all we can, He will do the rest.
