Must-Read Monday

For the kids, today.

Looking for good mid-age children's books that are CLEAN yet well-written and exciting? Try the Hermux Tantamoq series by Michael Hoeye. There are 3 books in his series so far: Time Stops for No Mouse, The Sands of Time and No Time Like Show Time. The series features a land of anthropomorphic mice, who apparently live in a world of their own, not the "under the humans" type of land usually prevelant in these types of stories. The main character is Hermux Tantamoq, a gentle and kind watchmaker who finds himself involved in mysteries and adventures through no intentional efforts of his own. There's a fun and interesting set of characters who round out the stories, including an aviatrix whom he in love with, a snooty billionairess neighbor and more.

We've only been able to read the first two books so far, but they are great. Full of excitement and adventure, they are sure to thrill your young reader/listener. Best of all, they are exceedingly clean - there are absolutely NONE of the truly bad swear words in the books we've read, and in addition, there are very, very few of the euphamistic bad words (gee, darn, etc.) that authors sometimes feel the need to use all through their books.

The ending of the first book is very thrilling, and my son could harly bring himself to put it down to go to sleep when he was reading it. That's the mark of a good book in my book! :-)
